Linden Police Station hosts awareness campaign following vigilantism

The police hosted an Integrated Social Crime Prevention campaign to address this and other crime-related issues.

After a recent incident of vigilantism in Windsor, Linden Police Station found it crucial to hosting an awareness campaign.

Led by Station Commander Colonel Shaid Abdool, the police hosted an Integrated Social Crime Prevention campaign to address this and other crime-related issues.

With the assistance of Gauteng Community Safety, security companies, residents, the Linden Community Policing Forum and Sector 4 Crime Forum, they told the public and businesses along Beatrice Street that mob justice should be avoided.

Abdool said, “The public might think they are assisting us by beating suspects involved in crime. We wanted to educate the community that they are putting themselves in danger when doing such.

“Firstly, they are breaking the law, secondly, they could be injuring an innocent person and, thirdly, they could be arrested for assault or worse, murder.”

The campaign also gave the station the chance to engage with the community on an array of issues. “We also wanted to inform people on activity crime trends taking place and offer them the chance to follow up on crime cases they have opened.”

Additionally, health-related services were also part of the campaign offering information and education on safe sex, blood pressure, diabetes and other health matters.
