Leadership training at Northcliff Primary

NORTHCLIFF – Leadership training works on a learner’s initiative, logical thinking, fortitude, drive, energy and a sensible approach to problem-solving.

Northcliff Primary School recently held a Leadership Day for their Grade 7 learners where they were taught that ‘teamwork makes the dream work’.

This is according to the school’s principal Debbie Smith who guided the learners on the day through their kayaking activities. Smith said, “The purpose of the Leadership Day is to reinforce the message of listening to each other’s ideas. Our learners must understand and come to the realisation that the most effective leaders serve others.

“The goal of the leader is to serve and not assume power or control. It is easier for our learners to understand, accept and live these ideals when they engage with each other in team-building activities.”

The learners took part in a variety of different and challenging team building activities, all of which allowed for initiative, logical thinking, fortitude, drive, energy and a sensible approach to problem-solving.

“The training builds good morale and unity. We’ve found that when learners work in groups they learn and understand the value of commitment. They also understand the need to listen to each other and to accept responsibility for completing certain tasks.”

The school is hoping the learners build on these lessons and continue to strengthen their leadership abilities.
