Make a difference by removing weeds in Alberts Farm and along your walks

ALBERTS FARM – Make sure weed seeds are not dispersed into the air and ground when removing them.

Parkgoers and walkers were asked to join the Friends of Alberts Farm Conservancy weed-busting day on February 26.

Hosted at Alberts Farm from 15:30pm, people were helping the ecology of the park and the area by removing problematic weeds.

For those partaking in the task, Conservancy vice-chairperson Marianne Forsythe-Coetzee shared some crucial tips on how to de-weed effectively.

“The important thing when you are removing any weeds, like blackjacks, khakibos and pom-poms, is to get it into a bag without any seed dispersal. The other important thing, if you are pulling a weed, is to cause the least disruption to the soil as you can.”

This is because the seeds in the surrounding area have the potential to grow if they have taken hold in the soil once disrupted. The conservancy would be highly appreciative of all those taking part, whether it is at the park or along their walks on the day.
