Oom Piet crowned dart king following his victory

ROOSEVELT PARK – Inviting young and old to see if you can hit the bullseye.

The Central Johannesburg Darts Association (CJDA) met for their second time this year on January 26 for their weekly league sessions.

Like every other week going forward this year, the club members get together to face their social yet competitive league nights where Piet Lewis, also known as Oom Piet. got his maiden victory.

It was only the club’s second meeting of the year but had already new members taking aim at the dartboards at the Auckland Park Bowls Club.

A quick-fire 301 was the order of the day playing best of three until the knock-out stages. Oom Piet took on Francois Roos in the final and won 3–0 to be crowned king of this week’s CJDA competition.

Every Wednesday night the CJDA meets at the Auckland Park Bowls Clubs where social and competitive game are played.

According to the club’s chairperson Tooi Engelbrecht, the competitive competition has members playing for points on a weekly basis’s. “Every week we tally the points until the end of the year where the top eight players nationally will be given the chance to play for the national team.”

Players are also eligible for national colours at this point so the intensity of the play is felt every week. The club is inviting those interested in learning and playing darts to join them on Wednesday evenings, they meet around 19:00m but start playing at 20:00.
