Police officer and courier driver shot in attempted Windsor robbery

WINDSOR WEST – A police officer and a delivery vehicle driver were shot after an attempted courier robbery on 8 March.

A police officer and a delivery vehicle driver were shot after an attempted courier robbery on the corner of Judges Avenue and Louise Street on 8 March.

Linden police spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba said that police were on routine patrols in the area near Viscount Avenue when they spotted two vehicles parked suspiciously. “The two vehicles were a new white A1 Audi and a white Mercedes hatchback. Both vehicles’ windows were tinted,” said Matumba.

The officers also noticed that a courier vehicle was making a delivery nearby. When officers exited their vehicle to investigate, one suspect leapt out of the Audi armed with an AK-47 assault rifle. “The suspect opened fire on the officers and the driver of the courier vehicle. One of our officers and the courier vehicle driver were shot and sustained serious injuries,” added Matumba.

She said that both victims were transported for treatment at Netcare Milpark Hospital. ER24’s Russel Meiring said that responding medics assessed the victims and found that the police officer had sustained a gunshot wound to his thigh while the other victim had suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

Both vehicles driven by the suspects fled the scene and remain at large. The Linden police request that any person who may have information about the crime contact them anonymously.
