Snake Lady charms Fairland CPF

FAIRLAND – Public reminded to give snakes space while calling for help and keeping an eye on them.

CPF better prepared to take on snakes, spiders and scorpions while staying safe.

Fairland Community Policing Forum (CPF) committed themselves to be able to assist with the safety and security needs of the community and are on their way to doing such. Members of the CPF recently attended a ‘Snakes, Spiders and Scorpions Identification and ‘First Aid for Bites and Stings’ lecture with resident ‘Snake Lady’ Carla Goede and partner Ruan Bosch.

According to the CPF’s Bhaai Cassim, the presentation was professionally packaged and presented, allowing for questions as they slithered through the topic. “Many myths on snakes have been shattered. One of the best presentations I’ve attended. It is a ‘must do’ for anyone who fears snakes or just wants to learn more about this beautiful creation of God. An absorbing and educational experience.”
He added that Goede’s knowledge and experience shone through as they navigated through the web of fact and fiction the years of misinformation had etched into their minds.

An increased number of snake reporting in the area further encourages the CPF to continue improving their skills, knowledge and abilities in this department. Cassim stated, “It also seems possible that with an increase in the rodent population in urban areas, there are also more predators, something we need to consider. We must find a healthy balance between nature and man to coexist peacefully.”

All the members in attendance of the presentation had very similar feelings and reactions to the course. Ebrahim Hoosen expressed, “What an enlightening workshop. Carla Goede is certainly knowledgeable in her field and her passion for sharing that knowledge comes through clearly.”

Cassim reminded the public that if they encounter a snake on their property that it is important to give it space, call for help and to keep an eye on it until someone arrives to remove it. The behaviour and size of the snake are more important than the colour for its identification. Furthermore, Goode has offered her services for removing snakes in the precinct at no charge should we ever need to. She can be reached via the CPF on 082 443 2245.
