De La Salle Holy Cross College joins orange initiative

LINDEN – The #LindenHOPE initiative was started by the Whippet restaurant in Linden to foster a sense of hope in the local community, and other suburbs are encouraged to do the same.

De La Salle Holy Cross College has joined other schools in the area by wrapping the trees around the college in orange as part of an initiative, Hope is our Future.

The #LindenHOPE initiative was started by the Whippet restaurant in Linden to foster a sense of hope in the local community, and other suburbs are encouraged to do the same.

“Although we fall just outside the Linden border, we have a deep affinity with the suburb and its history, ” said principal Debbie Harris. The school was founded by the De La Salle brothers and Holy Cross sisters in the 1950s at the request of the Catholic Bishop of Johannesburg. Holy Cross Convent for girls on 13th Street opened in 1956 with Sister Mary-Ita as the headmistress. De La Salle College for boys on Road No 3 opened in 1959 with Brother Alpheus Farrell as headmaster.

There are still Holy Cross sisters and De La Salle brothers residing on the properties.
“We have tremendous hope that despite the setbacks of 2020, the Linden community will continue to support each other and thrive,” concluded Harris.
