Covid-19: The City suspends the process of issuing permits to informal traders

JOBURG – The suspension of trading permits to informal traders will last until further notice.


The City of Joburg has announced on 7 April that it has decided to suspend the issuing of trading permits to informal traders during the 21-day lockdown.

The application process kick-started on Monday, 6 April and was supposed to run until Wednesday, 8 April between 9am and 4pm at Jorrisen Place on 66 Jorissen Street, Braamfontein.

The City’s decision comes after the team from the Department of Economic Development at 66 Jorissen started experiencing challenges on the second day of the process (7 April) where a large crowd descended at the venue compromising safety and social distancing.

The City confirmed that the issuing of permits will be suspended until further notice.
