Northcliff Union Church steps up

NORTHCLIFF – Nortcliff Union church visits neighbouring community in Windsor East.

In light of the uncertainty and fear of the omnipresent coronavirus which has gripped the world, Northcliff Union Church headed the call to engage Windsor East and reach out to the poor and the homeless. This was motivated by their belief that everyone deserves to live, not just the rich.

With the partnership of Impala Fruit, Northcliff Midas, and Africa Food For Thought, the church managed to purchase amenities for the Windsor community which often gets lost between the cracks. The items bought included soap to practice adequate hygiene, bags of oranges as a source of vitamin C, and survival food packs for Windsor residents.

Over a weekend, the team from Northcliff Union Church, which included Gavin Harrison, Ine Duplasay, Joseph, Stanton and Michelle Jogannah, ran a Covid-19 Outreach Awareness programme in Windsor East. They educated the people about the disease and provided visual demonstrations on how to wash hands, and also other safety measures that should be adhered to minimise the spread of Covid-19.

Unfortunately, it proved to be a challenge to have attendees remain a metre apart from one another. The crowd was eager not to miss the opportunity of getting the soap, oranges, and food packs provided by the church.

The volunteers expressed their joy to practice ubuntu within their community. These sentiments were met with gratitude from the recipients of the amenities and information.

Pastor of Church Planting and Missions Stanton Jogannah said, “The highlight of this outreach for me personally was the similar comments that came from a few of the people we reached out to on the day, and that was ‘the government has forgotten about us, but the church has not’.”
