Fairland police host Joburg’s police stations

FAIRLAND – 40 police stations meet at Mosaiek Church to plan for the near future.

The police’s Johannesburg district recently met to pave the way forward for 2020’s crime-reducing efforts.

Fairland Police Station and its members were pleased to host the Johannesburg District of the national police at their precinct on 28 January. The get-together was organised by the district and aimed at bringing together all police stations in the area and discussing some of the success and challenges they have faced in the last 12 months. District Commander Major General Max Masha was present to discuss these matters with the representatives of the 40 police stations in the area. These included station commanders, investigators and management of police stations.

One of the station commanders present was Fairland’s very own Lieutenant Colonel Clive de Freitas. He shared a few details from the meeting, “General Masha addressed all in attendance and shared some of the statistics of crimes they have improved in policing and those that need more attention.”

Some of the crimes they have put a special focus on for this year are trio crimes. According to De Freitas it is the one category that needs more attention from the police. “This category includes car hijackings, armed home robberies and business robberies. These crimes usually involve firearms and violence. Victims in such crimes are at risk of getting injured during the incident.”

De Freitas stated that General Masha thanked them all for their efforts and risking their lives every day to keep the communities they serve safe. He said, “General Masha told us to remember that our mission is to make communities feel safe and not to turn a blind eye to things going on in the community.”

He advised the officers to put themselves in the shoes of victims and remember that people go to the police station for help. De Freitas stated that this message was received well from all stations and they vowed to follow through with the District Commander’s advice and ensure that communities can trust and rely on the police.

De Freitas also wanted to thank the Mosaiek Church for providing the venue along with all additional support and service they received during the day. He stated that the relationship Fairland Police Station and all its related policing partnerships with the Mosaiek Church is one that he treasures and hopes to get stronger and stronger.
