Brixton clean-up comes with lessons
BRIXTON – Community shows their commitment to keeping things clean and environmentally-friendly.
Residents get together with recyclers to clean up the streets of the community.
The morning of 21 September was an initiative to clean up various public spaces such as parks, roads and alleys. The residents of Brixton put their gloves on and opened up their refuse bags to rid these spaces of the rubbish that filled them. Under the hashtag #BrixtonBeautiful and in partnership with African Reclaimers Organisation (ARO), those present started their day at Kingston Frost Park. They then split up into various teams to tackle other parts of the suburb. The clean-up also included the creation of new pieces of art in the neighbourhood. Walls were painted with lovely images after the clean-ups and these where done by both residents and reclaimers.
The ARO, an organisation aimed at formalising the work being done by informal recyclers, was also present to teach the community about what gets recycled and ways to keep #BrixtonBeautiful.
Residents were extremely grateful to be supported and educated by the ARO whose members participated in the day’s activities.
