‘Reclaiming the night’ young women invited to MEC Mazibuko GBV dialogue in Sophiatown

SOPHIATOWN– The gender-based violence (GBV) dialogue will be hosted at Trevor Huddleston CR Memorial Centre on 11 October.


Gender-based violence (GBV) is still an issue on the mind of many South Africans, particularly after the cases of femicide and violence against women recently. 

The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, will be hosting a dialogue, followed by ‘Reclaiming the night’ in Sophiatown, on Friday 11 October.

The MEC said the purpose of the dialogue is to engage with female students in institutions of higher learning and young women in the community, on gender-based violence and femicide.

Date: Friday, 11 October 2019

Time: 2pm

Where: Trevor Huddleston CR Memorial Centre,  71 Toby Street, Sophiatown, Johannesburg. 

Meeting point for ‘Reclaiming the Night’ is at the Oval Stadium, behind Sophiatown Police Station, at 6pm, the dress code is bright colours.

The community-driven march, ‘Reclaiming the night’, is a group of women of all ages sending a message that women have the right to walk the streets at any given time.
