Young champs showcase their soccer skills

GREENSIDE – The boys made their school proud by participating in the Discovery School Knockout Cup in August and making it to the semi-finals of the tournament.


Greenside Primary School’s U10 soccer team reached the semi-finals of the Discovery Primary School Knockout Cup.

The cup is a soccer tournament for primary schools in Johannesburg with 39 participating. It consists of six age groups – U9, U10, U11, U12, U13 and U14 and more than 1 000 young players participated in the tournament with the preliminary rounds being held through the month of August.

The finals will be held throughout the month of September. The school’s sports manager Mohammed Bhamjee said the team won their quarter-final match 9–0 against Torah Academy Primary School but lost the semi-final 3–2 against Kings David Linksfield Primary School.

Nadia Da Costa of the school’s SGB said, “We are very proud of our team. They have worked very hard this year, are passionate when it comes to soccer and have always showcased great sportsmanship.”
