Attempted house robbery in Fairland

FAIRLAND – An attempted house robbery saw two suspects arrested and they are now awaiting a bail hearing set for 13 August.

Two suspects were arrested on 2 August after an attempted robbery at a Fairland home.

The house-owners were able to call their security company which led to Fairland Police Station arresting the two suspects.

Two males suspects headed into the family home during the evening, tied up the father and two sons while taking most of their household appliances. Communication officer from Fairland Police Station, Constable Michael Kgatla said, “They took all household items but one child at the house was able to free himself and called his mother. The mother quickly called their security company who was able to apprehend the suspects.”

The police found out that the firearm the suspects used was fake (plastic). One of the suspects had a previous conviction and the other was a first-time offender, at the age of 18-years-old.

Kgatla said the suspects appeared in court on 5 August but were remanded in custody for a formal bail hearing, set for 13 August at the Brixton Magistrate’s Court. “The family was visibly traumatised and received counselling but was able to get all their appliances back,” he said.
