Police arrest suspected shooter

SOPHIATOWN – Back to jail for suspected repeat offender.

Sophiatown Police Station recently arrested an alleged shooter who has other cases pending against him.

According to the station’s spokesperson, Captain TJ de Bruyn, officers were called to a shooting in the area on 4 August. He stated that the officers had returned to the scene the following day and were given information that led to the arrests of the suspects.

De Bruyn said, “Two of our officers got information on the whereabouts of the suspected shooter and went to his address. Upon their arrival, they found and arrested the 26-year-old male suspect.”

Once detained, police ran a background check on the suspect and discovered he may not be a first-time offender. De Bruyn said, “It was later found that the suspect is linked to four attempted murder cases and two murder cases. The police are currently investigating if the suspect can be linked to more cases.”

Since then the suspect appeared in court and is suspected to be part of an organised crime syndicate.
