Greenside Primary School maths geniuses

GREENSIDE – Ten learners from the school made the community proud by winning prizes at The Horizon Maths Challenge.


Learners of Greenside Primary School were invited to The Horizon Maths Challenge Awards that were held at the Linder Auditorium at Wits University on 19 July.

Ten learners from the school came in the top 200 and two of them in the top 50.

Horizon Educational Trust invites surrounding schools in the community to participate in the mathematics competition; learners from Grade 5, 6 and 7 who are top in their classes are encouraged participate.

This year 82 270 learners participated at the challenge from all over the country to making themselves and their schools proud. The following learners from Greenside Primary School represented at the awards;

  • Sa’id da Costa Mathias – Grade 5
  • Kaamila Khan – Grade 6
  • Zohaib Ahmad – Grade 6
  • Ngqabutha Macala – Grade 6
  • Lwango Tom – Grade 7
  • Nthato Msomi – Grade 7
  • Priyesh Chetty – Grade 7
  • Tshiamo Masenya – Grade 7
  • Umar Munir – Grade 7
  • Deacon Snyman – Grade 7

Principal Cheryl Kotwal attended the awards to show her support to her learners and stated, “We are very proud of our Greenside learners.”
