Brixton police remove three suspected business robbers off the streets of the community

BRIXTON – Police take down three for business robbery.


Work done by the Crime Intelligence Robbery Section has resulted in arrests, less than 24 hours after the crime.

Brixton Police Station are pleased with the working relationship they have with other departments under the national police service. This comes after the Johannesburg District Crime Intelligence Robbery Section followed up on information from a business robbery that took place on 27 May.

According to Jeanette Backhoff, spokesperson for the station, the suspects were arrested in Melville. She said that three suspects allegedly targeted a store in Mayfair on 27 May. “The manager of the shop and a visitor were standing at the counter having a meeting when two males entered the shop. One of them had a firearm and demanded them to lie down on the floor.”

Backhoff added that the suspects went on to demand cash from the manager and he opened the cash register. “The one suspect put the cash in a bag while the other suspect was making sure that the people in the shop lay face down. The suspects fled the scene in a Toyota Corolla, which was driven by a third suspect.”

Officers followed a suspicious-looking vehicle and once on University Road, the car was pulled over and searched. Backhoff said, “Inside the vehicle were false number plates, a reflecting jacket that a complainant stated that one of the suspects had on at the time of the robbery and two unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The suspects were charged with being in possession of unlicensed firearms and business robbery.
