Well wishes for the Linden Runner team heading to the Comrades Marathon

LINDEN – Local runners get ready for the ultimate race.

Runners prepare to represent the community at this year’s Comrades Marathon.

The Comrades Marathon will kick off at 5.30am on 9 June for the 94th time. Of the 25 000 runners that have been hard at work to compete in the race, some hail from the beautiful streets of Linden. Linden Runner (www.lindenrunner.co.za), the locally based running club, held a send-off braai and social evening on 29 May for their members running the ultimate race.

Linden Runner is a new running club that registered with Central Gauteng Athletics in 2018 and this will be the first time the club will have members represented at Comrades. The three Linden Runner medal contenders, Anli Grobler, Marelize Steyn and Patrick Wysoczarski, have all completed the Comrades Marathon before and hope to better their personal best times, and that their participation this year will motivate more club members to join them again in 2020.

Estie van Heerden, Linden Runner club chairman, shared her excitement with the team having representatives entering the race.

She said, “We are immensely proud of our team competing in Comrades this year. Just to have members running in our club colours and presenting us on such a large platform is a huge accomplishment for us as a club. We hope everyone from the Linden Community will support and follow our team on television or at the race. A few of our other members had to withdraw due to injury and flu, but next year we hope to send a larger team to represent our club.”
