Northcliff High Wildcats get their heads in the game

NORTHCLIFF – Bravo Northcliff High, bravo.

Northcliff High School learners received a standing ovation for their onstage production of their High School Musical play.

After months of preparation, Northcliff High School finally hosted the opening night of their major production for this year. They stuck to the status quo and presented their onstage production of the legendary High School Musical. The learners, parents, friends and family of the school came out in their numbers from 15 May to witness Northcliff High’s drama team do what they do best and entertain those in front of them.

High School Musical is a teenage love story that goes through a roller coaster of themes such as sports, drama, envy, anger, frustration and of course, lots of singing and dancing. The showed opened with an energetic cheerleading scene of flips and splits. The audience were spoilt with a great basketball set that included some impressive basketball skills, dancing and singing, all at the same time.

The moment everyone was eager to see was whether or not Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez, played by Joshua Randall and Shannon Howard respectively, would have their famous kiss. Earlier in the show the audience was teased with the possibility of this and just as they were losing hope, Bolton and Montez locked eyes and hands and shared the magical moment that sent the crowd into a frenzy.

The audience shared laughs throughout the play, especially as a strange earthworm slithered across the stage during a detention scene. Grade 12 Tiana de Abreu and Grade 11 Miguel da Silva, who played Mrs Darbus and coach Bolton respectively, were fan favourites thanks to their antics and characters that reminded the crowed of their own passionate art teachers and demanding sport coaches. The crowd was genuinely entertained and pleased with the performances of the cast.

Nick Jourdan, director and producer of the production shared his pleasure with how the show went. “High School Musical has been around for a good while and has been done by just about everyone, but its proving to be as popular as ever and audiences are showing their enjoyment and their approval. Let us all celebrate what these learners have managed to achieve and let us celebrate yet another Northcliff High success.”

The High School Musical crew are now preparing to take their magnificent play to Africa’s playground, Durban. The Natal Playhouse Theatre will host the show from 18 June to 23 June. Tickets are available from Computicket.
