Gang man arrested

SOPHIATOWN – Gang member could be facing jail time thanks to the polices efforts.


Police took another unlicensed firearm and gang member off the streets of Westbury on 11 May as they arrested a man found in possession of such a weapon.

According to the spokesperson of the station, Captain TJ de Bruyn, the arrest came during a routine patrol of the area. “Sophiatown Police Station officers were on routine patrols when they saw a suspicious person at Tamboekie Court in Westbury. When the suspect saw the police vehicle he started to run.”

The police officers proceeded to chasing the suspect on foot. Within no time the officers were able to stop the man in his tracks and apprehend him. The suspect was searched by the police and that is when the firearm was discovered. De Bruyn said, “The suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.” The suspect was also found to be a known gang member in the Westbury area.

The suspect was charged and a case of possession of an unlicensed firearm opened.
