Northcliff celebrates half a century of success

NORTHCLIFF – Northcliff High School celebrated 50 years of success with a weekend of festivities for all ages at their school.

NORTHCLIFF – The bright sunshine eased in the afternoon on 27 April at the high energy Northcliff derby day. The past weekend’s festivities doubled as a celebration of the school’s 50 years of success as well as a sports day for all community members to enjoy. The sports day was followed by a Craft Gin and Beer Festival with live performances.

Hockey, netball and rugby were the order of the occasion at the winter sports derby day. It was an opportunity for competitive spirit to be celebrated as the blurs of blue, white and red competed against the brown, white and yellow haze of Randpark High School and the grey, black and whites of Hyde Park High School. The derby day was fuelled with the spirit of competitive sportsmanship and nostalgia when Northcliff old boys and girls stepped foot on the manicured grounds which formulated the hub of their teenage years.

The sports day boasted an opportunity for all high school age groups to show their might in their respective sports, compounded with the nostalgia which accompanied Northcliff alumni at the old boys’ and girls’ matches. Learners, family members and coaches were all catered to, whether it was via sports, the jumping castle or numerous food stalls which satisfied a variety of cravings.

As the sports day winded down, those who required a different accompaniment to palette cleansers headed over to the gin and craft beer tent to satisfy their thirst. The jovial atmosphere featured live stage performances of both past pupils and current learners. The gin and craft beer tent cemented the weekend, where alumni were invited to write a message to the school on a large card with a giant ’50’ on it.
