A successful weekend for Cluster Police

RANDBURG – More than 90 suspects were arrested over the weekend.

The Johannesburg West Cluster Police enjoyed huge success after arresting more than 90 suspects over the weekend of 26 April.

“During one of the operations that were held in Diepsloot on Friday night, two senior officers leading from the front arrested a suspect for possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of the suspected stolen property,” said Randburg Police Station spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja.

Maja added that when officers were also executing stop-and-searches, they noticed a suspicious person. When searching him, they found the suspect to be in possession of a firearm with serial numbers filed off.

“The suspect was immediately arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. The firearm would be sent for ballistic test to determine if it was not used in committing other crimes,” said Maja.

Other suspects were arrested for various crimes ranging from possession of car breaking implements, theft, possession of drugs, possession of suspected stolen property, rape, possession of ammunition, common robbery, assaults with the intent to cause grievous body harm and drunk driving.

“The management of the district applauded the members for their dedication and commitment in eradicating bad elements from the society and encouraged members to continue their working relationship with other law enforcers and closely with the community as well,” added Maja.

All suspects are expected to appear in the different magisterial courts after being formally charged.

Police stations in the cluster that saw the arrests include Diepsloot, Douglasdale, Florida, Honeydew, Linden, Randburg, and Roodepoort.

Maja added that the community is encouraged to report any suspicious incidents to police on 08600 10111 or their nearest police stations.
