Brixton police warn alcohol users and sellers

BRIXTON – Police warn the public to be cautious when using liquor and illegal substances.


According to Brixton Police Station, they have has seen an increase in the number of assault cases opened due to liquor consumption.

The spokesperson for the station Jeanette Backoff, said, “Brixton policing precinct has a lot of assault cases reported due to the misuse of liquor and other substance abuse.”

Backoff shed some light on what exactly is deemed as assault. “Assault means the verbal or physical harm of a person. Both are crimes and may result in either criminal or civil liability.”

She added that the act of assault could see those charged having to pay a fine or serve prison time if found guilty. The police plan to engage with the community to address this issue. “Brixton police will be having more liquor-related operations to curb this type of crime reported.”

They will also visit liquor outlets to warn people of public drinking, trading alcohol without proper licenses and the by-laws associated with the selling of alcohol.

Backoff said there would be serious consequences for outlets that are found to be conducting business illegally.
