Newspaper delivery man has his efforts celebrated by Caxton

JOBURG – Caxton Local Media applauds newspaper delivery man for the role he played in helping an elderly landlord.

A newspaper distributor Collen Hlongwane is being celebrated by Caxton Local Media following a shout-out from local police.

One of Caxton Local Media’s newspaper distributors is getting high fives and rounds of applause for his contribution towards the community he serves. Brixton police station recently wrote a letter to Caxton Local Media, highlighting how Hlongwane had informed them of an elderly landlord that was being taken advantage of by her tenants.

Jeanette Backoff, the spokesperson for the station, said his actions were incredible and wished more people in the community were like him. She said the following about Hlongwane, “He is a very humble person and always friendly and the most outstanding quality in him is the fact that he cares.”

Word of his community service and care made its way to Caxton Local Media’s management and on 26 February, Hlongwane was given the recognition he deserved.

In front of his colleagues and bosses, Northcliff Melville Times Business Manager Norman Dawe celebrated him for what he had done. With a beautifully framed copy of his letter from Brixton police station and an envelope filled with what only Hlongwane and Dawe know, Dawe thanked him for being an excellent example to his colleagues. Dawe said not many people would pay attention to the environment around them while working but clearly, Hlongwane was different.

The massive smile on the face of Hlongwane and the cheers of his Caxton colleagues behind him showed that caring people are still appreciated. Caxton Local Media and Brixton police station hope that Hlongwane’s spirit of compassion will motivate others to care for those around them.
