Soccer tournament hopes to inspire youth in the community

WESTDENE – Tournament sets to inspire youth to be able to overlook negative influences within their community, and concentrate on empowering each other.

WESTDENE – Three young soccer enthusiasts hosted a soccer tournament at Westdene Dam Park.

The fun event had eight teams participating. Event organisers Mfundo Dlamini and Omphile Diphikwe are still studying while Xabiso Ngcula is now working part-time. They were inspired by the fact that they have been able to overcome the problems that their community is affected by and decided to set-up a ‘wellness’ tournament to show the youth how to use sport for positivity.

Dlamini said support from local sponsors would help them to host more events, to help the youth focus on something more positive and provide them with encouragement when faced with challenges in the community.

“We are then able to interact with each other and participate in what we love, that is our hope.”
