Women’s football tournament hosted in Northcliff

NORTHCLIFF – Women get to kick balls all day long.

Local soccer development programme hosts its second tournament.

The Linette Theron Memorial Tournament was hosted on 3 November by Bantwana College Football Club (BCFC). The tournament was attended by eight teams from all corners of Johannesburg and Florida Albion Ladies walked away as winners of the tournament.

Bantwana College Football Club is proud to host eight different Johannesburg-based teams at their Linette Theron Memorial Tournament.

Founder of Bantwana College and organiser of the tournament Theo Buttress said, “It was a gigantic success and an improvement on our inaugural tournament held in March this year.”

The teams that participated brought their A-Game and a special mention was made for Florida Albion Ladies’ goalkeeper Elizabeth Mazivize. She helped her team raise the trophy with her amazing performance.

Florida Albion Ladies gained automatic qualification to Bantwana College’s 2019 pre-season tournament which will be hosted in March.

Buttress thanked the sponsors who helped make the event possible but importantly the parents and committee with the kind assistance from Remax Masters Rentals in Weltevreden Park.

Those that weren’t on the football pitch at Linette Theron Memorial Tournament entertained themselves throughout the day with the many activities lined up by the organisers.

The tournament was named after and played in the memory of the late Linette Theron. According to Buttress, Theron sponsored BCFC with funds to start the rental process of the container as part of our clubhouse/storage facility.

BCFC is already planning their next tournaments. Apart from the tournament happening in March they will also host another in November with various matches and training and practice sessions taking place throughout the year. Buttress is pleased with the level of commitment and competition that is manifesting itself. He remains optimistic about the future of Bantwana College and female football.
