Fairland CPF meeting dives into the state of crime in the area

FAIRLAND – The meeting addressed safety and security issues facing the area.

Relevant role players of the community’s safety and security were all in attendance at a recent CPF meeting.

The Fairland Community Policing Forum (CPF) hosted their October meeting recently where they discussed safety and security issues facing the area.

At the meeting residents engaged with the police, members of the CPF, security companies and Metro police on a range of concerns they had.

Fairland Police Station’s Captain Patrick Sejang addressed those in attendance on the state of crime in the policing precinct.

He gave details into the numbers recorded by Fairland Police station following the release of the crime stats in September. ”

Fairland does not even contribute 0,5 per cent of the crimes to inter-province or national statistics. Fairland has been declared as one of the safest suburbs, thanks in large to the private security companies, CPF, and patrollers.”

Warrant Officer Koobair urges the public to be cautious as crime is rampant around Northcliff shopping centres, main roads and schools.

He pleads with the community to report suspicious vehicles. He also mentioned that there has been lots of car jamming incidents.

“Owners are asked to physically check their vehicle doors and not merely press the remote to lock the vehicle and walk away.

Chairperson of the CPF Dr Gulam Karim encourages residents and members of the public to report all crimes.

“The community is encouraged to report every single crime incident because when allocation of resources is made, crime incidents are taken into consideration.”

The issue of convictions was also addressed at the meeting. During October 13 suspects were convicted for crimes in the area. According to Captain Sejang this is a good number for a station the size of Fairland.

“In the Johannesburg Cluster of eight police stations, Fairland is doing well as we are usually either number one or two.”

Sejang thanked members of the CPF, security companies, patrollers and everyone else involved in fighting crime.

He said the cooperation between all these entities make the task a little bit easier.

Captain Sejang concluded by stating that every single incident of crime is one crime too many. He said the station is doing its best to reduce crime in the area.
