Woodworkers show off their latest creations at their Summer Challenge

ALBERTSKROON – Wood you like to join them?

While many stayed indoors during the cold and wet weekend, the gentlemen of Wits Woodworkers Association rolled up their sleeves to do what they love most.

On 13 October, members of the association gathered to showcase their latest wood creations including four soapbox karts.

Ben Bruyns is excited to be the person to test drive the soapbox karts on 13 October at Wits Woodworkers Association’s Summer Challenge.

As they do on most Saturdays, members spent the morning carving and shaping pieces of wood into magnificent pieces of art that one could decorate their home with.

The most exciting part of the day was when 11-year-old Ben Bruyns was given the responsibility to test out the karts.

Ben was excited to drive one kart in particular.

He said, “The Termigator has a good brake and steering system so I’ll be able to ride it without fear.”

This after Ben had shared how in the past he had had a few accidents test driving the karts.

Herman Potgieter, the chairperson of the association invited interested people to join their group.

He said, “We have a range of activities that could interest people. We meet twice a month at the Living Link Centre in Parkhurst. These meetings include lectures, product demonstrations and talks by experts, both by members as well as visiting specialists.”

They also make a range of crafts such as wooden bowls, toys, kitchen utensils and more.
