One suspect killed and another seriously wounded in Northcliff hijacking

NORTHCLIFF – Pharmacy customers stop hijackers from getting away.

One suspect has been shot dead, another wounded in a hijacking on Acacia Road.

A hijacking took place on the evening of 10 October where one of the suspects was shot dead while the other sustained a serious headshot wound.

 

Police attended to a shoot-out that came as a result of a hijacking in Northcliff on 10 October 2018.

Fairland Police Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Clive de Freitas gave details around the incident which took place on the corner of Beyers Naudé Drive and Acacia Road.

He said, “Two males hijacked a maroon Toyota Land Cruiser. Two customers inside the pharmacy (one an off-duty police officer from West Rand K9 Unit) went out to assist. They tried to stop the hijacked motor vehicle from leaving.”

A shoot-out then ensued between the suspects and the customers, resulting in the vehicle trying to make a getaway.

The driver lost control of the car and collided into a tree on Acacia Road.

Police attended to the scene and found the driver of the vehicle dead on the scene while the second suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the head.

The wounded suspect was taken to hospital for treatment and two unlicensed firearms were recovered inside the vehicle.

De Freitas said, “A case of hijacking and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition was opened and is being investigated by the Johannesburg Central Cluster Trio Task Team.”
