Heavens Gate Safe Haven gives children a memorable Heritage Day

WESTDENE – Fun for all this Heritage Day.

The community’s safe haven gives children an eventful Heritage Day.

As the country celebrated Heritage Day on 24 September with their friends, family, food and traditional outfits, so did the children of Heaven’s Gate Safe Haven in Westdene.

Lynn Fortuin, founder of the safe haven said, “Today we will give the children a chance to enjoy themselves.

We organised a jumping castle, face painting and a Heritage Day braai for them to enjoy.”

Two children at Heavens Gate Safe Havens enjoy some yard racing as part of the Heritage Day fun day.

The house was filled with smiling and laughing children throughout the day as they moved from the jumping castle in the backyard and rushed to the front of the house to express themselves through art.

An artist in the making as this child adds a bit of detail to his masterpiece.

Heaven’s Gate Safe Haven is a non-profit company that Fortuin started to ensure that children in the community and surrounding areas have a place to go to where they can experience life in a less harmful way.

These children come from violent and disadvantaged backgrounds and Fortuin believes they too need to experience their rights to shelter, food, education and safety.

She was so passionate about this project that she gave up her home and turned it into the haven.

Fun galore as children enjoy the jumping castle.

Apart from helping children they also train and equip parents with the necessary skills to fulfil their financial, emotional and parental responsibility to their children.

Fortuin is grateful to every person that helped make the day the success it was.

She thanked those that entertained the children, cooked and cleaned and ultimately ensured that nothing went wrong on the day.
