Woodside Sanctuary receives R110 000 donation

AUCKLAND PARK – The spirit of Mandela Day continued at Woodside Sanctuary with the help of its trusted and supportive partners.

Woodside Sanctuary, a home for the profoundly intellectually and physically disabled, was a hive of activity as the Reatile Foundation, ASB Branding and Egoli Gas joined forces to host their Mandela Day initiative and celebration on 21 September.

General Manager of Woodside Kirsten Williams said, “Ubuntu should be practised 365 days a year and not just one day a year.

It’s beautiful to see all these entities coming on board to make a difference in the lives of the children we cater for.”

It was a celebration for the children of Woodside Sanctuary as they indulged in cake donated to them for their September Mandela Day.

The spirit of Mandela Day was continued as those in attendance were busy with painting, cleaning and gardening.

Apart from the work that will be done on the premises, Woodside also received a whopping donation of R110 000.

The money was raised through a Golf Day hosted earlier this year. The money will help the NGO with its day-to-day running of the facility and any other financial needs.

Mandela Day was celebrated yet again at Woodside Sanctuary on 21 September as employees from Reatile Foundation, ASB Branding and Egoli Gas donated their time and energy to clean the premises.

The Egoli Gas Corporate Charity Golf Day was held at the Randpark Golf Course and was considered to be a huge success according to Alida Spykerman of Egoli Gas.

She said, “The event went ahead without a hitch and we received a lot of support from the Egoli suppliers and customers.”

With 18 holes sponsored, 144 players entering and a golf cart being raffled, R110 000 was collected on the day.

Spykerman stated that the relationship formulated through this initiative will continue to grow with more projects expected in the near future.

She said, “Our plan is to have a relationship with Woodside and see how we can help them into the future. I know they are in need of industrial washing machines and other equipment and those are the things we can look into in the future.”

Garden work, painting and cleaning was carried out during Woodside Sanctuary’s Mandela Day celebration on 21 September.

The day ended with some of the children at Woodside joining their guests for cake and to interact with them.

Williams believes that the children do recognise and appreciate the efforts made by the community around them. She encourages the community to continue personifying the words of the late former president, Nelson Mandela.
