FAIRLAND – "Change is as good as a holiday," says award-winning officer.

Welcoming an award-winning officer to the community’s policing efforts.

Fairland Police Station is happy to welcome the award-winning Adele van Zyl to its police station. Van Zyl is excited to start her new journey at the Fairland police station and said, “Change is as good as a holiday,” and has already hit the ground running.

She is coming up with ideas for the station’s Heritage Day celebrations. Van Zyl recently joined the station and brings along with her a track record of creativity, enthusiasm and productivity.

These are characteristics that led her to win the Vita Basadi Guardian Award and Women of the Year for the work she did over the last year.

Van Zyl shared the joy of her triumphs when she said, “I have multiple awards but they are mostly runners-up accolades; this year was different as I got to take the top prizes home with me.”

Adele van Zyl was named Vita Basadi Guardian Award and Women of the Year at this year’s Police Cluster Awards.

In October Van Zyl would have accumulated 10 years of service with the South African Police and what better way to commemorate a decade of service than being recognised by your peers and superiors.

The Vita Basadi Guardian Award is given to a woman in the police or military service for their selfless community interaction and outreach projects.

Van Zyl expressed how excited she was to win the award.

She said, “Last year I was a runner-up but this year I’m very happy that I won the award.”

The recognition of Van Zyl’s work doesn’t end here, she was also named Women of the Year at the West Rand Police Cluster.

The award season is far from over for Van Zyl as her awards have gained her qualification into the provincial police awards taking place in October.

She said, “I’m very excited to have won the awards and I’m even more excited to have the opportunity to win more.”

She added that if she is successful at the provincial awards she will be nominated for the national police awards.
