Johannesburg Water to place water tankers in communities

RANDBURG – Johannesburg Water will be placing water tankers in strategic locations to help those affected by the water outage.

Johannesburg Water has advised residents in areas affected by the power outage at Eikenhof pump station that their reservoirs are running low and residents with water must continue to use it sparingly.

Johannesburg Water communications manager, Isaac Dhludhlu said, “The affected area is quite vast and Johannesburg Water is unable to place tankers everywhere, most will be placed at strategic points like clinics, schools and hospitals.”

The current status from City Power is that repairs are underway and Johannesburg Water does not have an estimated time for completion of repairs.

According to a press statement released by Johannesburg Water, this is the current status of reservoir and water towers:

  • Lenasia Cosmo is currently being throttled at 50%
  • Hospital Hill reservoir: reservoir closed, pump switched off
  • Lenasia CBD: Estimation that water supply will run out by this afternoon due to demand
  • Soweto: System is stable
  • Crown Gardens: Tower is empty
  • Hurst Hill water tower and reservoir both closed
  • Brixton water tower Empty
  • Crosby water tower: Empty

Water tankers will be deployed in these areas in the Roodepoort/Randburg Region:

  • Discovery Clinic
  • Florida Clinic
  • Roodepoort Clinic
  • Florida Old Age Home
  • Fleurhof Helpmekaar Road
  • Fleurhof – Fever Tree Flats
  • Florida Maud Street 9th Avenue
  • Florida Albertina Sisulu and 4th Road)
  • Florida Eider Road and Lepelaar Street
  • Florida Caltex Garage
  • Roodepoort Mare Street, Gustav Street and Luttig Street
  • Fleurhof RDP Flats

Locations of water tankers in Brixton and the surrounding areas include:

  • Main Street and Von Brandis Street (Old Age Home)
  • Newlands Police Station
  • Plantation Street and Market Street (Old Age Home)
  • Milpark Hospital
  • Helen Joseph Hospital

Water tankers which are already on site:

  • Brixton Police Station
  • 43 Kilmore Street, Brixton
  • St Elmo Street, Brixton

Dhludhlu added, “We have arranged for two water trucks to fill up the water tankers and roam within the affected areas. Residents are asked to please use water sparingly during this time as we do not have turnaround times.”
