Wits and UJ get ready for Varsity Football 2018

JOBURG – Who will rise as the best football team in the country?

It’s that time of the year again when universities fight it out to see who has the best football team.

Eight universities will be battling it out once again as the 2018 edition of Varsity Football gets underway from 26 July.

The annual competition is a 10-week showcase of some of the best footballing students the country has to offer.

Last year’s winners, University of Pretoria (men) and Tshwane University of Technology (women) will be looking to replicate their success from last season.

Local favourites and rivals University of Johannesburg (UJ) and Wits University will also be vying for top spot. The two teams will face each other for bragging rights on 9 August.

UJ will play the University of Limpopo in their opening game on 26 July while Wits will travel to Durban to face the University of KwaZulu-Natal on the same day.

The tournament ends on the 27 September and all games will be open to the public. A full list of fixtures can be found on the Varsity Football website and tickets for the games can be purchased from there as well.

The first match of the competition will be North-West University vs the University of the Western Cape.
