Sparrow learners receive lunchboxes with a caring difference from Grayston Prep

MELVILLE – Since most of the school's learners don't even have lunch boxes, the donated containers will make a difference.

Kids from Sparrow School’s Foundation School in Melville were recently showered with thoughtful gifts from their peers at Grayston Preparatory School in Morningside.

Sparrow Schools, of which the foundation school is part of, is a registered non-profit organisation that provides affordable, specialised education to disadvantaged youth and children with barriers to learning between the ages of seven and 18.

On 11 May, the youngsters were each treated to a fully packed lunch box, individually brought by learners from the preparatory school earlier that day.

Volunteers Lorna Mitchelson and Jenny Laas from Kindness Like Confetti, who orchestrated the donation, helped hand out over 200 meals that arrived in Melville in box loads.

The foundation school’s principal, Leona Krishna said that because of the school’s feeding scheme, many of the youngsters will receive at least one hearty meal a day.
