Linden Swimming Pool reopens after electrical fault has been fixed

LINDEN – The closure in February caused an outrage by community members.

The Linden Swimming Pool has been reopened today, 27 March, after it was closed due to an electrical fault in the filtering system, leaving the water dirty and ‘not fit for swimming’.

MMC for Community Development, Nonhlanhla Sifumba, said because the City takes residents’ health seriously, they opted to close the pool to the public until the water was safe for bathing.

The decision to close the pool was taken on 28 February.

Linden Swimming Pool has been reopened on 27 March.

This caused somewhat of an outrage by the community since it is one of the city’s flagship pools and opens year-round.  The pool is also used by swimming instructors and professional athletes.

“We acknowledge that the closure of the pool caused inconvenience to the people of Linden, as they had to visit other nearby swimming pools or do without enjoying pool services. I would like to apologise for this, and promise the residents that we are working tirelessly to minimise or eradicate these closures,” Sifumba said.

It was only last year that the pool had a facelift and the faulty boilers – which left the heated pool rather cold – were repaired.

The Linden pool has been part of the community for 54 years and is among the oldest pools in the city.
