Northcliff Rotary Club continues to raise funds for heritage site Northcliff Ridge Ecopark

NORTHCLIFF – The Northcliff Ridge Eco Project is currently a work in progress and is in need of the community's assistance.

The Northcliff Ridge Eco Project needs your assistance to enhance the Northcliff Ridge Ecopark.

The aim of the project is to improve the accessibility of the park by making it wheelchair friendly and to improve the parking area to create an inviting environment.

The rotary has been working hard to encourage members of the community and business owners to pledge donations to make the project a success.

Northcliff Rotary Club public relations officer, Ian Goldsmith said so far the response from the public had been slow, however, the club was optimistic that people would become involved.

“There has been no feedback except for one company which has offered to supply signs. The rotary has put in R100 000 to start the fundraiser,” said Goldsmith.

Ecopark which is currently closed raises concerns among residents about the accessibility to the ridge during the duration of the project.

Northcliff Rotary Club Secretary, Paul Westcott, said the rotary has been apprised of their unhappiness regarding the closure of the ridge. The closure was done by the Eco Park Association in order to repair the broken fence and do a general clean-up.

“The Rotary Club Northcliff has not started with any renovations.

When we do, City Parks will close the park for about six weeks. We will not start until we have the balance of funds in hand and have ordered material as well as making sure that our contractor is ready and there will be no or initial delay.

Once the paving has been renovated, wheelchair, as well as pedestrian access will have been improved .”

“For more information, people can contact the Eco Park Association’s Murray Heylett or Suburban Crime Centre director Clive Maher,” said Westcott. Their contact details are available from Goldsmith.
