JOBURG – Anyone with information about the incident can contact Metro police on 011 375 5911.

A Metro police officer has been shot in the head while attempting to stop a minibus taxi hijacking in Booysens early in the morning of 13 February.

The 47-year-old officer is currently receiving medical attention at Milpark Hospital and his family is reportedly receiving counselling from the department of safety.

Executive Mayor Herman Mahaba said no arrests have been made but that he had requested Metro police chief, David Tembe and MMC for Public Safety, Michael Sun, to use all means possible to apprehend those responsible.

This incident follows a week after Emergency Management Services paramedics were attacked while responding to a maternity emergency and two weeks after two Metro police officers died when a drunk driver drove into them in Fourways.

Anyone with information about the incident can contact Metro police on 011 375 5911.
