There is nowhere to hide for drug dealers or those in possession of drugs in the Brixton Police Station precinct, as officers are determined to keep the streets drug-free.
The station conducts weekly random stop and searches which target pedestrians and vehicles in suspected drug hotspots.
The Northcliff Melville Times visited the police station for its police parade on 19 January, and to witness their crime prevention operation.
During the operation, three men were arrested for being in possession of drugs and one for dealing in drugs. One was arrested in Brixton and the other three in Vrededorp.
In addition to arresting suspects for drugs, police also confiscated an array of matchboxes full of dagga in Vrededorp.
The Brixton Police Station officers and detectives also visited a house, suspected of either selling or storing drugs, with a search warrant.
The owner of the house told Northcliff Melville Times that he was an ex-convict on parole and sold drugs in prison as well as after his release. He said he had since stopped selling drugs, however, his son sold drugs now, putting him at risk of getting re-arrested.
While police did not find any drugs in the house, they requested a search of the premises by the K9 Unit to sniff out any narcotics. None were found in the home.
The Brixton Police Station commander, Colonel Mkhacani Maluleke, said he was determined to let drug users, carriers and dealers know that the police would not tolerate drugs in the community.
