There’s a new station commander in town

FAIRLAND – The newly appointed station commander has an open-door policy for all members of the community.

The Fairland police have a new station commander working actively to reduce and combat crime-related incidents in the community.

Lieutenant Colonel Clive de Freitas settled into his new position in August this year and said since his appointment, he’s received positive support from members of the police and the community as a whole.

One of his aims is to continue to give residents a platform to work with the police, through reporting crime-related incidents and raising their concerns about the community they reside in.

“Fairland has a good track record in terms of having very low serious offences such as armed robberies, which have been reported. One of the recurring challenges we are faced with is vehicle-related cases, which include theft of motor vehicles and theft out of motor vehicles taking place at shopping centres.

“It’s either they are jamming the vehicles or they are smashing vehicles when they see there aren’t enough guards to keep an eye on cars. I encourage everyone to physically check that their cars are locked,” said De Freitas.

He added with the festive season upon us he encourages people to apply extra caution, due to the increase in crime-related incidents happening in and around communities.

During this time of the year, the station commander believes in the vital role security companies play when residents are away and assist the police in ensuring the community’s safety.

Furthermore, he encourages people to always alert their security company when they are away or alternatively have someone close to them housesit.

“We would like to see more community members coming on board with CPF initiatives, which are active in the community but there’s very little support in terms of participation and attending meetings.

“Residents are urged to start sharing information and engaging with us. If there are any problems, my door is always open.”

Besides keeping criminals off the street, the married father of one enjoys cycling and going to the gym in his spare time.

Being a police officer is a role he has always wanted to pursue since he was younger and is still driven by the same vigour – 25 years later!
