A new parking area and walkway for disabled people

NORTHCLIFF – The Northcliff Rotary Club transforms the South African Guide Dogs Association's parking and walkway.

The Northcliff Rotary Club members opened their hearts to upgrade the SA Guide Dogs Association disabled parking and walkway.

The occasion was also an opportunity to acknowledge and award everyone involved in the association, including its residents.

Northcliff Rotary Club public relations officer, Ian Goldsmith said the ceremony was a combination of the guide-dog owners who graduated after completing their training with new dogs.

“Supporters, service clubs, volunteers, friends and relatives attended the symbolic occasion. As a token of appreciation for their support, certificates were presented to service clubs, corporates and individuals. Everyone who played a part in the training and sponsoring of the guide dogs was thanked,” said Goldsmith.

He added the rotary was approached by the association to provide the funding and arrange with the constructor for the construction of the disabled parking and walkway, which is used twice a day by staff members who use a wheelchair.

There are also a number of elderly volunteers who struggle to walk up our steep ramp, who will also use the disabled parking each day. The rotary is an organisation which is actively involved in the community and has plans for the Northcliff Ridge pathway.

Goldsmith explained and said, “About 23 years ago the Northcliff Rotary Club arranged for the pathway on the Northcliff Ridge at the water tower.

Next January the club will be facilitating the relaying of the pathway on the Northcliff Ridge at the water tower.

We are appealing to businesses and members of the public to donate towards the pathway, where a signboard will be erected at the entrance of the pathway, including the names of the sponsors, businesses and members of the public who have given donations.”
