Greymont’s hidden reading wonderland

GREYMONT – 'It [the centre] works like a little library'

Tucked away in the Northcliff Piazza at the furthest corner near the delivery entrance is a reading wonderland for Greymont children.

The Northcliff Melville Times visited the Greymont Reading Centre, currently run by Katlego Hoffman.

The reading centre is a safe space where schoolgoing children can do their homework and read. Hoffman is not only in charge of the centre itself, he also assists children with homework where they need it.

Avid child and teenage readers cannot only visit the cosy wooden house and sit on its comfortable couches, they are also able to take books home to read, provided they return them.

“It [the centre] works like a little library, children just need to make sure they bring the books back,” Hoffman said.

When the Times visited the centre, three schoolchildren were reading and doing their homework with Hoffman occasionally answering questions.

“I open the centre at about 9am and close at about 5.30pm,” Hoffman explained.

The centre also welcomes book donations suitable for schoolgoing children of all ages. Hoffman put emphasis on textbook donations.

If you have any old books or textbooks lying around at home, pay the centre a visit at the Northcliff Piazza.
