Eeufees elderly in Westdene receive free health check

WESTDENE – A clinical research centre brought basic health screenings to Eeufees Old Age Home.

Residents of Eeufees Old Age Home in Westdene had their blood pressure, glucose levels and cholesterol tested free of charge on their very doorstep.

Synexus, a clinical research centre, did a community health check at Eeufees on 22 August, which coincided with the home’s feeding scheme that is run every Tuesday.

Residents had the chance to learn about the status of their health before or after collecting a home-cooked meal prepared by Kindness Like Confetti (KLC).

Jenny Heuvel of Eeufees was chuffed by the visit and had two blood pressure readings taken.

Sumae Welgemoed, a Synexus nurse, gave some insight into getting a high blood pressure reading and how it should not always be a worry.

“Patients shouldn’t always worry about getting a higher blood pressure reading especially after they have been a bit active. Your blood pressure goes up when you’re moving around. When you go for a blood pressure test, make sure you sit down and relax for a few minutes,” Welgemoed explained.

In addition to the community health check, the Synexus team brought along cake as a treat for the residents.
