UPDATE: What’s happening at Westdene Dam Park?

WESTDENE – Ward councillor sheds light on recent excavations at Westdene Dam Park.

The once resident-filled Westdene Dam Park is now filled with dug up ground, pipes and stone.

Ward 69 councillor, Genevieve Sherman explained that the excavation at the park was conducted to lay down storm water pipes. She said it is part of the Johannesburg Development Agency’s non-motorised transport (NMT) project.

Storm water pipes form part of the bigger Strategic Integrated Transport Plan Framework project which focuses on road and storm water networks as supporting NMT infrastructure.

In a previous Northcliff Melville Times article, Sherman said the park is also being used as a construction site for the Corridors of Freedom project.

As a result of all the construction taking place in and around the park, it has been closed and is expected to reopen on 19 October, however, dates are subject to unexpected change.

Sherman said further construction might be on the cards for the dam.
