Boswell launches her debut book, Grace, in Melville

MELVILLE – Academics write beautiful fiction.

Feminist theory, gender and sexuality scholar, Barbara Boswell wrote a work of fiction called Grace which was launched at Love Books in Melville on 5 July.
The protagonist is Grace who had a problematic and violent home life growing up in Cape Town during late apartheid South Africa.
Later in life, Grace has flashbacks and is once again confronted with her childhood trauma when an old childhood friend reappears in her life.
The book’s themes include intimate partner violence, loss and personal trauma.
In the book, Boswell tries to look at different kinds of violence and see where they intercept and differ which is in line with her belief of writing as a feminist and looking at ways in which art can heal trauma.
The book is available at local book stores including Exclusive Books and Love Books in Melville and sells for around R240.
