Mustangs reined in by Mets

PRAEGVILLE – Mustangs put up a strong defence against the Randburg Mets.

Randburg Mets clinched their baseball match against Marks Park Mustangs 13–12 in the Winter League.

Mets had home advantage as they walked onto the field with Mustangs to bat first. During the first three innings, batters fell like flies as one after another went out without hitting the ball. Multiple foul balls resulted in a very low run rate.

Mets (in red) won the game by just one run.

Mets were the first team to get to home plate and score the first run of the game.

Ultimately, the game warmed up towards the end with a strong attack and field defence from both teams. Glen Gillman of the Mets said, “It was a close game with both teams having a high scoring inning towards the end of the game. In the last inning, the game was tied at 12 all. Mets needed one run to win, birthday boy Russel Peach hit a single driving in the winning run.”

The Joburg rivals’ previous game on 4 June saw it go the other way. Mustangs secured a 6–3 victory over the Mets. Mustangs coach, Erich Albrecht, said their strategy for that game was to get onto the pitch and put bat to ball.

Albrecht said these games were in preparation for the summer season.
