Would-be hijackers target parent at Reddford House Northcliff
NORTHCLIFF – Reddford House have since upped security at the school. Police have not made any arrests yet.
Police have confirmed an attempted hijacking took place at Reddford House Northcliff.
The school’s managing director, Ronel Burger released a statement to parents and guardians saying the attempted hijacking took place on the afternoon of 27 June.
Intruders apparently gained access to the school by holding their security guard at gunpoint. The would-be hijackers targeted a parent.
However, the parent saw the imminent danger and sped off.
In the statement, Burger said extra guards would be placed at the gate during their winter school programme and play rehearsals.
The school is now looking into installing bulletproof glass at the guard house this week as an extra precaution.
“Everything possible is done to control access and safeguard our premises,” Burger said.
In addition to the attempted hijacking at the school, Burger said two hijackings had also allegedly taken place on the same day on 14th Avenue.
“Parents are cautioned to be vigilant at all times,” Burger said.
Constable Moloko Kgatla, spokesperson for the Fairland Police Station, confirmed the attempted hijacking. He said the case is currently being investigated, however, no suspects have been arrested as yet.
