Randburg SPCA steps in to assist Naidoo family pets with food and warmth

NORTHCLIFF – The Naidoo family dogs are supplied with food, water and blankets thanks to the Randburg SPCA.

After a Northcliff resident raised her concerns about the animals of the now deceased Naidoo family, Randburg SPCA has stepped in to help.

A committee member of the organisation, Charmaine Rowlands said the resident alerted her on social media by tagging her in a Facebook post regarding the dogs.

Debbie Keagle, Randburg SPCA inspector, visited the Naidoo family residence on 7 June to view the condition of the dogs.

After getting past a private security guard stationed at the house, Keagle was met by two crossbreeds. One of the dogs is large and multi-coloured, similar to a St. Bernard, while the other is small and looks similar to a dachshund.

The SPCA supplied the dogs with 25kg of Royal Canin dog food, a donation received from community members, drinking water and four blankets.

“The community does so much for the Randburg SPCA and we feel during such an enormous tragedy that we have to make sure we are there for the community. We don’t just take help, we give help,” Keagle said.

On 8 June, the Randburg SPCA will supply the dogs with two kennels and more blankets to make sure they are as warm and comfortable as possible during the investigation.

“We will be visiting the house every day until everything is over,” Rowlands said.

Keagle spoke to two family members about handing the dogs over to the SPCA while police conduct their investigation.

“This will not mean that they will be surrendering the dogs to the SPCA, it only means we will keep the dogs safe and when the time is right, we will give the dogs back to the family.”

The family have not yet agreed, but are considering the offer.

Keagle said it was important to tend to these animals as dropping temperatures and having no owners causes anxiety for the animals.
