This year’s theme ‘A Winter’s Night in the Black Forest‘ had the school hall transformed into a sophisticated Winter Wonderland complete with a snow machine, icy forests and candlelight.

As is the school tradition, the Grade 11s raise funds, choose a theme, which is a closely-guarded secret, and decorate the hall themselves. The entire school turns out for ‘The Oscars’, when the they get to watch their matrics arrive and walk down the red carpet to great cheers.

On the following evening the hall was used for the ‘Come Back, Give Back Dance’, attended by parents and past pupils, and all money raised is donated to a chosen charity, along with blankets brought along by the guests.

“Our grateful thanks to the Grade 11 teacher, Liz Van Der Westhuizen and the Mothers Committee for the wonderful evening enjoyed by the matrics, their parents, the staff, the De La Salle Brothers, Holy Cross Sisters and the board members,” said the headmaster, Atholl Murray.

He concluded by thanking the Grade 11s for their hard work over the April holidays as the attention to detail could be seen by the superb decor, food and atmosphere.

“Our matric dance is such a special tradition in our school, and involves all the learners on some level.”
