Melville welcomes new car guard project
MELVILLE – Brixton police station starts a new car guard project which is meant to reduce crime in the area.
Brixton police have started a car guard project in Melville.
Jeanette Backhoff, the station’s communications officer, said all the car guards have been profiled and identification cards were made for them.
“Each one of them has been issued with a number to make identification easier for members of the public,” said Backhoff.
She added that these car guards have signed a code of conduct where they pledge to remain sober and presentable at all times.
They will also be held responsible for their section of the road/pavement to keep clean and tidy.
Backhoff added that the station’s sector manager, Warrant Officer Rassie Smal, plans to have unique bibs by the end of May for the guards so that they can be properly identified.
“Members of the public are encouraged to only support these car guards and to report any misconduct by these guards so that their ID cards can be removed and they can leave the area,” said Backhoff.
She added that through this work they were able to remove a lot of problematic car guards in the area.
She concluded that they implemented this project to reduce crime in the Melville area.
